Home Performance with Energy Star

Energy Savings,

Home Performance with Energy Star (HPwES) is a national program designed to help homeowners maximize the energy efficiency, comfort, safety, healthy living environment, value and overall condition of their home by bringing their home up to Energy Star standards. HPwES is nationally sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and the the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Chapman offers these services as part of the installation process and is a great way to receive financing and other rebates and incentives. The program has been a part of our community for a while now, but there are still some questions about how it works. Read on for some of our frequently asked questions! Due to our time, knowledge, care and constant training that our auditors utilize when assessing every individual energy aspect of your home, such as, your heating-ventilation and air conditioning system, filtration system, windows/doors and insulation, testing is very thorough and extremely informative.

What is the cost of participating in the Home Performance with Energy Star Program?

The cost of Chapman’s Home Performance Energy Audit is $400, which includes the pretest (Blower Door 1) and the post test (Blower Door 2). If you choose a qualifying system through Chapman for your new energy efficient HVAC equipment, there will be no charge for your Energy Audit.

The cost of the Blower Door testing is based on the technology and training that goes into being a part of this program on our end. We utilize the most advanced equipment, as well as require trained and certified contractors/auditors to perform it.

Do the Chapman HPwES auditors hold certifications or approval to work with local utilities?

Yes! Our Energy Auditors have been BPI (Building Performance Institute) Certified, NCI (National Comfort Institute) certified in Air Balancing and Carbon Monoxide & Combustion Analysis. There is also extensive training to utilize a “whole-house” method when inspecting/testing. This gives them the knowledge to recognize energy-efficiency improvements that your home needs to accomplish the highest level possible in efficiency and money saving on utility bills.

Chapman Heating & Air is an approved “Certified Home Performance Contractor” with both Columbia Water & Light and Boone Electric.

How should I prepare for this?

We ask that you plan to be home for the as much of this test as your schedule will allow. The Blower Door 1 test takes approximately four hours, and we realize that doesn’t fit into everyone’s schedule. The auditor will have some questions about the efficiency of your home and in this case, you’re the expert! For this reason it is most important that you are available for the first hour that our Auditor is in your home testing.

To prepare your home for testing, please make sure that our Auditor has unobstructed access to every room in your home, your attic, garage, crawl space, even closets. Have all pets safely put away, as the door to the outside will be open. We also ask that you do not have a fire in the fireplace before or during your test.
