Troubleshooting Tips for Your Heating System
Getting stuck in the cold without heat is not a good place to be! There are some tricks that can help before you call in the big guns. There are many intricate and delicate pieces to your heating system, so we never recommend taking it apart to fix it yourself.
If your system is electric, or a combination of gas and electric, make sure it has a good power source. The breakers are a great place to start. If the system stops running, make sure there isn’t an obvious reason first. There may also be a power switch on the unit itself. This looks like a light switch and if it gets bumped it could cause your system to not come on.
Even if the power is out your thermostat may still light up. This is the next thing to check. The batteries in thermostats are generic batteries that you probably have lying around the house, so change that and see if it works!
If your system is gas, it is important to check and see if the gas is turned on. Sometimes when utility companies are working in the area, they will temporarily shut off the gas to your home. We recommend that if the system isn’t starting up, check and make sure your gas source is viable.
We recommend always that you check and change your filter if the system is not operating a top condition! Doing this continuously throughout the year helps ensure that your heating function is top-notch.
If the system seems to have a good power supply, it is likely that the problem is internal. Luckily when you call Chapman, you don’t have to work about any surprises!
