Feeling Hot, Hot, HOT!

Service, Maintenance,

Temperatures across mid-Missouri have taken a sudden spike! Here at Chapman we are working tirelessly to keep our new and existing customers cool on these warm days. On average, we find our technicians work between 10 and 15 percent more during a heat wave that they do when the temperatures are stable. Our Chaps are happy to put in the extra time to keep our customers happy though, and they know being in the air conditioning business can mean long summer hours.

Our customers have been asking lately how the higher temperatures are affecting the general function of their cooling systems. We have devised some tips and tricks of the trade can benefit every homeowner and air conditioner alike:

  • Turning up the thermostat during the day can be stressful on the air conditioner. During extreme heat keeping a steady temperature in your home will reduce the overload on the air conditioner and be more efficient for the system. (NOTE: this is only true for extreme heat conditions)
  • Limit the number of household appliances you use in the home. Running the dishwasher, washer, or dryer in excess can create stray heat.
  • Check your filter! A dirty filter can cause dust and debris to build up, making the air temperature higher. This is sometimes the case when your air conditioner seems to be blowing luke-warm or tepid air.
  • Spray down the outside unit with a hose. Bugs and yard trimmings can get caught in the coil, lowering the unit’s efficiency. This also will add visual appeal to the external A/C.

Also remember, the household air conditioner is really meant to cool the home between 20 and 25 degrees lower than the outside temperature. Especially for some of those older and less efficient systems, when it is 100 degrees outside, an indoor temperature of 75 would be about capacity.

Of course it’s always better to prevent a problem than to fix it. We recommend bi-annual maintenance for your heating and air conditioning system by way of our Comfort Club plan. Now with two easy payment options (but only one EZPAY option!) it’s perfect for budgeting your systems well-being.
