F.A.Q.: Air Filters

Service, Maintenance, Energy Savings,

The air filter is a simple, yet essential part of your comfort system. Keeping up with regular air filter changes can increase your indoor air quality and your system’s efficiency. There are a lot of questions surrounding filtration and we’re here to help!

Does quality of the air filter matter?

With so many options of filters, it is hard to know which one to purchase. The importance of a good quality filter is unmatched when it comes to the efficiency and overall lifespan of your unit. A higher quality filter keeps the air in your home cleaner and keeps the inside of your system cleaner. Trapping those debris before they make their way through the system and ductwork can save you on costly repairs down the road.

How often do I change my filter?

Each filter will have a recommended lifespan. It is important to write the date that you last changed the filter so that you can have a good gauge of whether it’s time to change or not. There are factors that can contribute to needing to change the filter more often. Some of these include number of people or pets in the home, nearby construction, living on a dirt or gravel road, or even sensitivity to allergens. These things can cause more frequent filter changes, but we never recommend going longer than the suggested timeframe.

Can I run my system without a filter?

We are often asked if it is okay to run the system without having a filter in place. While the system will run, we do not recommend that you do. There are some major issues that can occur when there isn’t a barrier between the air coming in and the air that is distributed to the rest of your home. The most common problem is the excess of dust, dirt, and allergens that the filter keeps from circulating.
