Geothermal Tax Credit 2018

Installation, Energy Savings,

In February 2018, it was announced that the federal tax credit for geothermal heat pump comfort systems has been reinstated. This is big news in the HVAC world, because not only does it incentivize extremely energy-efficient installations going forward, it also is retroactive for all installs in the year of 2017. In the two years since the credit was taken away, the entire geothermal industry has taken a hit, and ultimately, the number of geothermal systems installed plummeted. This was sad news in our industry, because these systems allow homeowners to capitalize on more natural resources from the ground in their yard to heat and cool their homes, which reduces their carbon footprint.

What does this mean for you? According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, homeowners using a geothermal system save an average of 30-60% off their monthly energy bills, when compared to a conventional system. Now, with the added incentive of a huge tax credit, there is even more savings involved!

Geothermal energy actually works to heat and cool your home! This process starts with the natural temperatures from the earth, which stay at a general constant and moderate temperature throughout the year. Geothermal heating and cooling takes advantage of that stable temperature using a loop system, which transfers and maintains the climate of your home throughout the year.
