Summer Maintenance Tips

Maintenance, Fun!, Energy Savings,

It seems like summer just got started, and all of a sudden we’re thinking about back to school! Many mid-Missourians are gearing up for their last summer fun. Spending more time outside, getting out of town, or planning a big summer bash is on a lot of our minds. The last thing we want is the added stress of an inefficient HVAC system. Here are some quick tips that can get your system running for the rest of this season:

Check your air filter. Your system is working overtime to keep your home comfortable. With all that air circulating through your home, your filter may get dirtier faster than normal. A clogged filter can also cause the temperatures in your home to not keep up. This simple fix can save you from costly repairs down the road too!

Blocked vents can also create higher temperatures in your home. Making sure your registers are void of carpets, rugs, and furniture is key. Also, make sure those vents are open to increase air circulation. Zoning issues or “hot spots” are common in extreme temperatures. Sometimes it’s necessary to call in a professional to adjust your dampers, but other times clearing the vent can solve your problems.

Finally, check that your outside unit is clear of debris. Gently brush away any yard clippings or vegetation around the unit. Use caution with any cleaning agents. Some solvents found in regular cleaners can easily corrode the fins of your AC. If you’re hesitant, call Chapman to get it done right.

Enjoy every last moment of summer, and make sure that when you’re done having fun in the sun, you can relax comfortably indoors.
