Chilly Furnace?
The past week has brought us significantly cooler weather. What if your furnace is doing a better job at cooling your home than warming? There are a couple of reasons your furnace could be making you chilly, some of them you can even check yourself!
The first solution we recommend is to wait for the furnace to heat up. Think of your vent system like a faucet, when you turn on the hot water you have to wait for the cold water to be pushed out first. Your furnace is similar in that it needs to push the cold air out of the vents before you feel the warm air.
After you’ve waited for what feels like forever and you still aren’t feeling any heat – the next step is to head to the thermostat. Check the thermostat to ensure that it is set to “Heat” and not “Cool” with the weather fluctuating the way it does in Missouri, sometimes we can forget what setting it was last on!
Checking the thermostat didn’t do any good? Time to check the filter. A dirty filter can be bad news for any HVAC system. Not only can a clogged filter lead to loss of heating and cooling because of restricted air flow – it can also lead to more serious (and expensive) problems if left too long. Sometimes it is the simplest thing needed to solve a problem!
When you call Chapman Heating and Air, we will always ask you these questions before sending a technician out in an effort to save you money. If none of these worked we will send out one of our knowledgeable technicians who will soon have your home feeling comfortable and warm once again!
