Holiday Heating Tips

Installation, Energy Savings, Tech Tips,

The Holiday season has officially begun – plans are being made for Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas celebrations. With the holiday season comes the long and cold mid-Missouri winter, (which seems to have come early this year) and as the temperatures continue to drop, we continue to look for ways to keep us and our families warm. So – whether you are hosting the festivities or heading out of town for a few days, below you will find some helpful tips for saving energy while away – or saving energy and still keeping your home comfortable for your families stay!

    1. Set the thermostat no lower than 55° This will reduce the amount your furnace needs to run when the house is empty, but still keep the indoor temperature high enough to help reduce the risk of frozen pipes.
    1. Seal up any drafty windows or exterior doors by using a draft blocker. Doing so will help keep the warm air in and the cold air outside where it belongs!
    1. If you’ll be using the oven heavily during the holidays, try turning the thermostat down a few degrees to keep your home from becoming overly warm and uncomfortable.
    1. If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home take advantage of it and add to the ambience of a cozy home, while saving energy by lowering the usage of your furnace!
  1. Be sure to use your ceiling fan to redirect the warm air from the ceiling to the floor! Most ceiling fans have a little switch on the side that allows you to change whether the blades spin clockwise or counterclockwise. To draw warmer air from the ceiling to the floor set them to spin clockwise.
