The beginning of a new year means the coldest part of winter is almost here. Now is the perfect time for replacing your old worn out furnace. If you’ve considered replacement before but hesitated at the price tag, then we have great news! If you live in the city of Columbia and are a residential electric customer of Columbia Water and Light, you may qualify for the Home Performance with Energy Star Program.

Keep reading to learn more about this loan and rebate program offered through the City of Columbia.

The Home Performance with Energy Star (HPwES) program is a nation-wide program designed to help homeowners maximize the energy efficiency, comfort, safety, healthy living environment, value and overall condition of their home by bringing their home up to Energy Star standards. HPwES is nationally sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Here at Chapman we offer these services as part of the installation process and it’s a great way to receive financing, rebates and incentives. The program has been a part of our community for a while now, but there are still some questions about how it works. So we’ve compiled some of them into one handy blog post.

What is the cost of participating in the Home Performance with Energy Star Program?

The cost of Chapman’s Home Performance Energy Audit is $400, which includes the initial audit (Blower Door 1) and the post-audit (Blower Door 2). If you choose a qualifying system through Chapman for your new energy efficient HVAC equipment, there will be no charge for your Energy Audit.

How much will I receive in rebates?

You can receive up to $1,200 for implementing recommendations from the audit. Things such as insulation, air sealing, and windows are all qualifying improvements. Additionally, up to $1,600 is available with the installation of an efficient air conditioner or heat pump.

What about loans?

The City of Columbia offers low interest loans up to $15,000 for most of the energy efficiency improvements suggested in the audit. The application takes about a week, and one of our Comfort Advisors will help you with the process.

How do I qualify?

If you live in Columbia and are a residential electric customer of Columbia Water and Light, then you may qualify. If you are not a residential electric customer of Columbia Water and Light but you do live in Boone County, you aren’t eligible for the loan, but you can still receive up to $1,200 in rebates through the Home Performance with Energy Star Program.
