Facts About Freon!

Service,

When the outdoor temperatures are pushing triple digits, it’s not uncommon to retreat to the cool comfort of our air-conditioned homes. At Chapman, and increase in those outdoor temperatures also means it’s not uncommon for an increase in our incoming calls. A comment we hear often when systems are not keeping up, or not cooling at all, is that people want to have their systems “recharged.” Having a little refrigerant added to your comfort system on a regular basis is a common misconception in our industry.

It is true that there are other refrigeration systems that use up their refrigerant over time. Even after a long, hot summer though, the refrigerant in your air conditioner will not “wear out.” This is because of the closed loop design of your air conditioner is designed to recycle the same amount of refrigerant for the life of the system. In fact, the refrigerant is really used to transfer the heat out of your home, not cool the air in your home.

If you are finding yourself adding refrigerant at any point, there is a leak somewhere in the coils, and a leak search needs to be performed. Once the leak is found, a technician will quote you the cost of repairing the leak or replacing the part.

Don’t forget to check these quick fixes if your air is warmer than normal, or call Chapman today!
