October Tech Tip Recap

Tech Tips,

The past couple of weeks in Mid-Missouri have blessed us with beautiful Fall days; but with cooler weather comes a need for furnaces! Every week we choose a question that our office staff and technicians are asked often. This month has been full of questions about humidifiers, carbon monoxide monitors, furnaces blowing cold air, and garbage disposals!

  • How do I keep my home from feeling so dry during fall and winter?

If your household suffers from dry, flaky and itchy skin during the colder months, we recommend a whole home humidifier that runs alongside your furnace. A whole home humidifier can prevent dry and itchy skin, respiratory problems, and prevent wood furniture and floors from drying out. Keeping a humidity level of 35% in your home can also help it feel warmer in the winter!

  • When should I replace my carbon monoxide monitor?

You should replace your carbon monoxide monitor every 5-7 years. The sensor in the monitor has a 5-7 years lifespan, to ensure the safety of your family we recommend replacing your monitor every 6 years. Read our blog post here to learn more!

  • My furnace is blowing cold air! What should I do?

If you’re furnace has been on for a while and just isn’t warming your home, the first step is to check the thermostat to ensure it is set on “Heat” and not “Cool”. Then you should always check the filter to make sure it isn’t clogged and restricting air flow to the furnace! If none of these solutions work, give us a call and we will send out one of our friendly technicians! Want to learn more? Read last weeks blog post!

  • Yuck! My garbage disposal stinks!

If you’re garbage disposal is becoming too smelly to ignore anymore – then it’s time for a good cleaning!  Our plumber Robert recommends using ice cubes and hot water to remove any food residue. You can also use salt for a little added cleaning power – then add vinegar to deodorize!

We hope these tips help answer any questions you may have, be sure to check out our Instagram and Facebook every Tuesday for more tips and advice from the knowledgeable technicians at Chapman Heating and Air!
